First public boat access on Lake Winnipesaukee

In the past, access to Lake Winnipesaukee was limited to private or town owned ramps. That changed on November 21, 2012 when NH Fish and Game acquired Downing Landing at the southern tip of Alton Bay. This is now the first public access point along NH's largest lake. The area will be closed April 15th through the 17th while engineers assess the landing for needed repairs.

Downing Landing includes several buildings, a boat ramp and a paved parking lot that accommodates cars with trailers along with a few cartop parking spots. There are also a couple of docks which allow for shorebank fishing. The are no fees to use the facilities at Downing Landing.
