Located in the Rangeley Lakes Region of Maine, Mooselookmeguntic Lake is Maine's 4th largest lake. Located north of Richardson Lake, it sits at an elevation of 1,467 feet above sea level covering about 16,300 acres with a maximum depth of 139 feet. Mooselookmeguntic Lake is the largest lake in the Rangeley area and is part of the Androscoggin River watershed area. The name Mooseloomeguntic, meaning "portage to the moose feeding place", comes from the Abenaki Indians. Variant names listed by the USGS are Mooselocmaguntic and Mooselookgeuntick.

A dam, known as the upper dam, separates Rangeley Lake and Mooselookmeguntic Lake. This dam causes the water level in Mooselookmeguntic Lake to raise 14 feet, linking it to Cupsuptic Lake, forming a reservoir. The waters from Mooselookmeguntic lake flow southwestward, into Richardson Lake. Two major tributaries feed into Mooselookmeguntic Lake from the northeast; the Rangeley River and the Kennebago River. There are 9 large areas of protected land around the lake, all of which have public access. Toothaker and Students are the two large islands located at the southern end of the lake. The boat launch can be found at Haines Landing in Oquossoc, but you will find that there is limited parking available at the launch site. Wilderness campsites operated by the Phillips Memorial Trust are located on the western side of the lake and on a few of its islands.
